Healthy Living, Less Judgment

#Detox #Fashion @Greenpeace Report: @Gap Loses

April 30, 2015 By Rachel Sarnoff Leave a Comment

I seriously love Greenpeace’s “Detox Catwalk” fashion campaign. The online platform ranks companies on supply chain transparency and eliminating hazardous chemicals from products. This year’s report just dropped, and the takeaway is a doozy.  [Read more…]

Welcome! I'm Rachel, better known as Mommy Greenest, and I created this blog in 2008 as a resource for healthier living with less judgment. Because you shouldn't have to be a scientist to make better choices, right? I'm a former journalist and co-founder of the sustainable beauty and fashion site EcoStiletto, which inspired The Big List of Things That Suck book. I was the Executive Director of The 5 Gyres Institute and Healthy Child Healthy World. I also published the Mommy Greenest Guide to Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond and have been featured as a sustainable lifestyle expert on "The TODAY Show" and "CNN Headline News," among others. Today, I'm a strategist, speaker, and CEO of Lincoln Sarnoff Consulting. Let's keep in touch!

    • On this final day, as we look for the silver lining of the last four years, I’m inspired by this poem, from Mary Oliver: Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It too me years to understand that this, too, was a gift. #activist #activism #equity #climateequity #climate #climatechange #climatecrisis #climateemergency #climatejustice #keepitintheground #greennewdeal #actonclimate #renewableenergy #environment #sustainable #letsdothis #happynewyear #happy2021 #bidenharris2020 #biden #biden2020 #harris2024 Photo via Creative Commons by Ulf Bodin.

    • Happy #MLKDay! Last week, a new report released by Green 2.0, which tracks racial and gender diversity in the environmental movement, found that although progress is being made, there is still a critical lack of representation. What can we do? Support organizations that are empowering and elevating leaders fighting for environmental justice. I’ve tagged @Weact4ej @EJ4AllNow and would love comments with other orgs to follow. Thanks! #MLK #activist #activism #equity #climateequity #climate #climatechange #climatecrisis #climateemergency #climatejustice #keepitintheground #greennewdeal #actonclimate #renewableenergy #environment #sustainable #letsdothis

    • Don’t toss the tree! Each year, as many as 30 million cut trees are brought into American homes to celebrate the season, only to end up taking up space and producing methane in landfills. But there’s a better way to dispose of this ghost of Christmas past: Once you remove the lights and ornaments, that tree is fully biodegradable and could be put to work. In Louisiana, Christmas trees are used to combat coastal erosion and in Oregon they help with salmon restoration. Some cities recycle trees into mulch for gardens and many offer free pickup from the curb. If

    • I’ve reduced takeout deliveries to a minimum, and restrict ordering to companies that I know don’t deliver in #plastic. But recently, with our family pod weighing in at a hefty eight mouths to feed, I acquiesced to the group and tapped a local restaurant that we used to visit in person. When the delivery came wrapped in plastic — from meal containers to condiments to carry out bags (we had requested no cutlery) — I was horrified. Eight meals represent a LOT of petrochemically produced plastic, and I know that statistically very little can be recycled and most will go
